A chaffle is basically a cheesy waffle made from mild-flavoured cheese and egg.

The cheese and egg make a light and fluffy waffle that won’t produce a cheesy taste, allowing you to easily adapt the recipe and make as many variations as you please.

These low-carb keto-friendly cheesy waffle recipes make a great addition to breakfast, lunch, or dinner AND make for a quick and easy sugar-free dessert.

The versatility of chaffles means that you can add them to your breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert meal planning. Since having recently lost my sweet tooth, I love making chaffles as a quick and easy sugar-free dessert!

How Do I Make Churros?

To make keto cinnamon churro chaffles, I have a special churro maker but don’t worry, I’ll show you how to make keto churros without a fancy churro maker.

This churro maker is the simplest and fastest way to make cinnamon churros PLUS the churro plates are removable and so easy to wash.

Simply pour a spoonful of the churro mixture into the churro moulds and close the lid to cook until golden and crispy.

No churro maker? No problem. Simply make a regular chaffle (cheesy waffle) or mini-chaffle, then cut them into churro slices.

And if you don’t have a waffle maker? Did you know you can make these in your regular frying pan too?

mini waffle maker is a perfect size and will allow you to make 2 mini-waffles for each recipe.

larger waffle maker will make one large waffle per recipe. Any waffle maker will work though.

How To Make Keto Churros

A chaffle is basically a cheesy waffle made from mild-flavoured cheese and egg.

These low-carb keto cinnamon churro chaffles include the addition of almond flour, making the texture of this healthy sugar-free dessert a little fluffier, yet sturdy and crispy on the outside.

I’ve also added additional cinnamon to give the much-loved churro spin on this chaffle recipe.

Once the chaffles have been made (either by your churro maker, waffle maker, or frying pan), cut them into slices and dip in the cinnamon sweeter I’ve created by placing granulated sweetener and cinnamon in a coffee grinder. This makes a very light powder for dipping the churros which is a must!

It’s really as simple and hassle-free as that.

Preparing easy Keto Cinnamon Curro Chaffles will take you less than 2-3 minutes.

After that, you just have to wait on your waffle maker to do its magic.

How To Serve Churros

If you ask anyone what they love about regular churros, they’ll tell you it’s the cinnamon sugar sprinkled all over the churros AND the chocolate dipping sauce.

Luckily, I have keto versions for both of these.

1: Cinnamon sugar – place your favourite granulated sweetener and ground cinnamon in your coffee grinder and blitz until you reach the desired texture.

2: Sugar-Free Chocolate Spread – for the classic chocolate dipping sauce, make my sugar-free chocolate spread and blitz until extra smooth.

Top Tips For Making Crispy Churros

  • Always mix the egg and cheese well before pouring into your churro maker or waffle maker
  • Make sure you spread the chaffle mixture out evenly into your churro or waffle maker
  • If you don’t have a waffle maker, you can use a frying pan
  • The longer you cook churros, the crispier they become
  • You may substitute any mild cheese you wish to in place of pre-shredded mozzarella.
  • Always check your pre-shredded mozzarella for additives such as potato or rice starch which is often added to prevent the shredded cheese from clumping. Find a good brand without these additional unnecessary carbs.

  1. Hi Libby

Do you have any recommendations for grated mozzarella in NZ?

    1. We’re pretty lucky here, almost all of ours in the supermarket (even the budget brands) are OK to use with minimal carbs and minimal anti-caking agents.

  2. Please can you provide a metric version?
US cups are 8 fluid oz and UK cups are 10 fluid oz, but I don’t know about NZ cups so metric or just the weights would be really useful.
    Many Thanks

    1. Not true, there is only a difference of 10 ml between UK & US measure, which equates to approximately 1/3 of an ounce (27 ml to the ounce)
The UK cups are 250mls and US cups are 240mls, so UK half cups are 125mls whereas US half cups are 120mls (quarter cups tend to be the same at 60mls). However for most recipes the difference is small and won’t affect the finished dish.

  3. 4 stars
This was my first attempt at chaffles. They were pretty good, except I would use about half the cinnamon. I got a Dash waffle iron through your site, and was disappointed to find out it was full size (since I already had one of those). I cooked my batter as two smaller waffles, which seemed to work, but I’m thinking I might have overcooked them? They seemed a bit tough, but figuring out when they are done by the amount of steam was tricky for me. I did 4 minutes per waffle, which should have been about right.

  4. I love these but recently found out that more than 1 teaspoon of cinnamon a day can be toxic.

    1. Hi Cindy! You can definitely use less cinnamon and still enjoy that churro flavor. Glad you enjoyed the recipe.

  5. if you don’t have a chaffle or chirro maker then a piping bag and a pot with lard or avacado oil for frying works great
